For the ninth consecutive year, The Storm King School’s Builders Club has left its mark on the Hudson Valley arts scene with a new installation featured in the Collaborative Concepts at Tilly Foster Farm exhibition in Brewster, New York. The annual show, now open through the end of November, showcases the work of 35 regional sculptors—and once again includes a colorful piece by Storm King School students.

This year’s sculpture, conceptualized by Jenny C. ’27 and Joya Y. ’26, is a vibrant tribute to marine life. Constructed during the spring 2025 session of the Builders Club, the piece is both a celebration of the ocean and a reflection on its fragility.

“Jenny and Joya brought a lot of energy and vision to the project,” explained Visual Arts Chair Mr. Carruthers, who leads the Builders Club. “They wanted to do something different this year, something that not only looked striking in an outdoor setting but also said something important. Their idea—to draw attention to the wonders and vulnerability of our oceans—was a great concept.”

A popular extracurricular club, Builders Club students collaborate to design and construct a large-scale outdoor sculpture, first displayed on the Storm King campus before traveling to a public exhibition over the summer. “The Collaborative Concepts show, held annually from Labor Day through November, has become a natural partner for SKS. Its timeline aligns well with the school year, and its emphasis on outdoor, conceptual sculpture provides an excellent platform for student artists to share their work alongside professionals,” continued Mr. Carruthers.

“It was really rewarding to see our sculpture next to the work of other artists,” said Jenny. “The setting is beautiful and it makes you think more about the message we’re trying to share.”

Joya, now in her second year with Builders Club, added, “Working again on this year’s sculpture was such a good experience. I’m really proud of what we made.”

The sculpture will remain on display through November before it returns to the Storm King School campus. Until then, visitors to Tilly Foster Farm can view Storm King’s creation alongside works by other talented artists from across the Hudson Valley.
