We are halfway through the fall athletic season, and it’s shaping up to be another great year for Storm King Soccer. Both the boys and girls soccer teams have shown exceptional performance and teamwork so far this year giving their coaches and their school a lot to be proud of.
Girls soccer started off strong in September with a solid 4-0 win against long-standing rival Faith Christian. A subsequent loss to King’s School didn’t stop the team for long. The girls picked themselves up quickly to tie Harvey School, and since then they’ve been unstoppable in the midst of a 4-game winning streak and show no signs of slowing down. Their run includes both a home and an away win against Marvelwood and Hoosac, followed by a 7-3 victory against Foreman School. The rest of the season looks bright for the team, led by high scorers Shania Roehrich, Aryana Martin and supported by Sam McCullough, Elizabeth Pomeroy, Tiana Vazquez, Naunet Leonhardes-Barboza, and newcomer Savannah Buon. The girls stand strong at 5-1-1 as they face Christian Heritage and Faith Christian Academy next week.
The boys soccer team got some good news this month when they were ranked “the 3rd highest seed among boys prep soccer teams in New England in their class” according to the first coaches’ poll of the year. The boys team has powered through the early part of the season standings at 6 wins and 2 losses to date. The exceptional play of team veterans Eduardo Pena, Igor Zelenko, Daniel Moreno, and Alonso Gonzales is rounded out with the skill of team newcomers Sean Witte, Joe Dawson, and Martin Prochazka, to name a few. The boys have kicked off October on winning note with their most recent victory over Harvey School 5-3 on October 4. Next, they will face their long-standing league rivals Marvelwood, Oakwood, Darrow and NYMA. GO COUGARS!
