Winter Break is officially over at The Storm King School. As our students return to campus, our faculty members have been busy preparing for the start of classes, athletics, and activities on Tuesday, January 7. As a part of their readiness agenda, Randy Nathan of the Positive Coaching Alliance (PCA) was on campus to conduct an interactive workshop based on the organization’s mantra “Better Athletes, Better People.”
PCA is a national non-profit organization dedicated to developing “Better Athletes, Better People” by working with schools to provide high school athletes with a positive, character-building sports experience. The Storm King School Department of Athletics embraces the organization’s approach and has been working with PCA officially since the start of the 2019-2020 school year.
According to Headmaster Jonathan Lamb, the relationship developed organically and complements the core values of Storm King and its athletic program. “First and foremost, athletics at Storm King is about sportsmanship, leadership, team-building, and character development. Our student-athletes not only compete at a high level, but they also personify the core values of our school; truth, respect, responsibility,” explained Mr. Lamb.
Storm King’s Athletic Director Joseph Graziosi stressed the importance of PCA’s message as he and his coaches prepare their teams for the spring semester: “We will continue to work with PCA in the coming months to create the best possible experience for our student-athletes, teams, and coaches. Today’s workshop is especially helpful in encouraging teachers and coaches to model positive behavior and create a positive learning atmosphere both in the classroom and on the field.”
