The 2025–2026 academic year at The Storm King School begins in just a few short weeks. For our students and faculty, summer is a time to enjoy the “4 Rs” – rest, relaxation, reading, and reflection. For our Facilities Team, however, summer is often the busiest time of year. This summer the team has been working hard to ensure that when students and families arrive this fall, they will be greeted by a campus that is fresher, more comfortable, and more functional than ever before.
Head of Maintenance Jamie Smith and his crew have been busy completing a wide range of projects both large and small. One of the most significant is the complete external and internal remodel of the Admissions Building, giving the space a modern, welcoming appearance for prospective families. Across campus, every dormitory now has brand new mattresses in every room, new dressers in Highmount Dorm, and updated laundry facilities in Stone Hall, Spy Rock House, Dempsey, and McConnell Halls. Several classrooms feature updated whiteboards, while fresh paint, new hardware, and targeted repairs have refreshed learning and living spaces from one end of campus to the other.
Outdoor improvements are equally notable. All campus roads have been sealcoated, with parking and special access spaces clearly marked to improve safety and accessibility. A new scoreboard has been installed for the athletic field as well as a new hydrant for watering. These enhancements join a range of smaller but impactful upgrades that improve both daily operations and the overall campus experience.
“Our goal each summer is to make improvements to the campus that students and staff will benefit from immediately,” says Head of Maintenance Jamie Smith Jr. “This year, we’ve addressed both large-scale projects, like the Admissions Building renovation, and everyday essentials, such as laundry facilities and classroom upgrades. It’s all about making the campus a better place to live, learn, and work.”
Each summer’s efforts are aimed at enhancing the experience and comfort of our students, faculty, and the wider Storm King community. With these newest upgrades in place, the School is ready to welcome everyone back for another productive and engaging year together.
