Along with the warm weather, budding trees, and blossoming flowers, the Spring Art Show at The Storm King School is a tradition our community looks forward to each year. With student work on display from both the fall and spring semesters, the show serves to recognize the creativity and skill of our students and highlight the depth of School’s visual arts program. Recently, the show’s opening took place in the lobby of Ogden Hall with a colorful array of student work in five categories on display. At the event, five students, who were chosen by a panel of faculty members as the best in each category, were announced along with two additional awards for the Best in Show and the Most Creative entries.

Visual Arts Chair John Carruthers was very pleased with the show and quality of work his students produced: “The art show this year was very expansive. We had work in almost every media you could think of: Drawing, Painting, 3-D, fashion, digital, performance, film, photography, and ceramics. We had more than 200 submissions with more than 10 classes from both semesters, including the fashion and builders’ clubs, and artwork students may have done on their own. We like to show the widest breadth of what our students can do.”

According to Mr. Carruthers, graduating seniors also had their own walls which they could decorate, providing an “added way to celebrate all a student has done in the arts throughout their time at SKS.”

Congratulations to the winners, and to all of our talented student artists who have worked hard all year to create this exhibition of outstanding work.
