The Storm King School Alumni Council is pleased to announce the recipient of the 2018 Margaret Clark Faculty Excellence Award: Mr. Scott Chrysler, 1989-1997. During his eight-year tenure at SKS, Scott served as an English Teacher, Dean of Students, and varsity lacrosse coach. Scott will be presented with the award during the Sesquicentennial Reunion Weekend on June 9, 2018.
Established in 2006, the Margaret Clark Faculty Excellence Award is given during the School’s annual Reunion Weekend to a former faculty member of longevity whose dedication transcends the classroom and whose high ideals have become part of the student-centered tradition of The Storm King School. Miss Margaret Clark retired from the School as a distinguished member of the faculty in 1938, completing 44 years of service as an art teacher. During her tenure, Margaret’s responsibilities grew from a teacher of art to head of the entire Lower School. During World War I, she ran the infirmary as well as the administration, while continuing to teach her legendary art classes. She is also credited with designing The Storm King School Crest that is used today.
Scott received many nominations from former students and colleagues that communicated his impact on the Mountain and felt he was deserving of the award:
“Scott was a guiding force….[he] loved working at SKS, loved its students, and was so helpful to other faculty members.”
“He helped me learn how to treat children who needed support and a push in the right direction”
“Scott Chrysler was one of my English teachers who conveyed his love of literature through his classes and students with commitment and passion. I’ll never read Fitzgerald without thinking of him and am grateful I got to read him through Mr. Chrysler’s eyes. He tried so hard to get me to know my potential.”
“He was always firm but fair. In English classes, I found that he was one of the teachers that had best prepared me for college. As a coach, he was toughest in practice but always wanted us to succeed.”
“He never accepted me getting low grades…he wouldn’t accept any excuses.”
It is with pleasure that SKS will welcome Scott and his wife Janetta Jones Chrysler back to the Mountain for the first time since 1997. Please register for the Sesquicentennial Reunion today and join our community in celebrating Scott Chrysler.
