The Storm King Cougars have a lot to be proud of this fall! All of our varsity and JV teams displayed outstanding sportsmanship and improved their game throughout the season while three varsity teams brought home Hudson Valley Athletic League (HVAL) championship trophies, and four teams went on to compete in the New England Prep School Athletic Conference (HVAL) tournaments.
The girls cross country team was the first to emerge as an HVAL league champion, capturing the trophy while hosting the final race. Both the girls and the boys teams ended their seasons on a high note running at the highly competitive NEPSAC final meet held at Marvelwood. Congratulations to Marisa C. ’24 who placed 1st in the HVAL final and 5th out of 94 runners in the NEPSAC girls race, as well as being invited to run as a Cross Country All Star.
Girls Varsity Soccer brought home the Cougars’ second HVAL championship trophy, beating Marvelwood 8-2 in a dominant team performance. Ines V. ’28 ruled the pitch scoring 6 goals with Amber L. ’25 scoring 2 goals and assisting on 4 goals.
The third HVAL championship was won by the boys varsity soccer team, who entered the Class D final as the 6th seed (and the #1 seed in WNEPSSA), beating Darrow, 7-1, in one of their best games of the season. Mohanad A. ’25 scored 3 goals. Their superb record resulted in the boys being selected to play in the NEPSAC semifinal tournament as the #6 seed in the quarterfinals of this prestigious tournament. In a hard-fought game against a strong, well-coached Wooster team, the Cougars didn’t advance to the finals but ended their season at the top of their game.
Our girls varsity volleyball team is also feeling proud for being selected to play in the NEPSAC tournament as the 7th highest seed in HVAL this year. The Cougars played an excellent game in their quarterfinal game against Christian Heritage School but it wasn’t enough to advance them to the finals. Regardless of the loss, the girls and their coaches are happy with their progress this year and already looking forward to next year.
Congratulations to our HVAL championship winners and all seven of our fall Cougar teams for another great season!
