More Details
This annual fee of $2,000 covers the cost of wireless internet and technology usage and some student activities. Students have access to wireless internet throughout campus and have access to a printer for academic work if needed. Teachers have access to iPads for classroom projects. Students should bring their own laptop computers. Tech support is available for school-related services.
Activities
SKS offers a myriad of arts/cultural trips, outdoor adventures, and community service opportunities. In some cases, SKS is able to absorb the cost of these activities. In other cases, the cost of transportation, entry, equipment, etc. must be paid by families. Teachers usually provide an estimate of cost while announcing the opportunity.
New International Student Orientation
Required of all new international students, the student arrives on campus a week ahead of registration. Orientation helps new students rest from long travel, acclimate to new surroundings, form relationships, and sit for placement testing so that their academic schedules can be finalized.
$2,500
English as a Second Language
ESL begins with an assessment to determine each non-native speaker’s level of proficiency. Students are then placed in classes suited to their individual needs.
$6,650
Academic Support Program
During the admissions process, the families of students with mild learning differences work with Admissions staff to determine whether students might benefit from extra support. The Academic Support Program begins with ASP Base Class to strengthen executive function skills and provide oversight of the student’s program. ASP begins with ASP class and oversight of the student’s program. In addition, students may take their core classes (English, math, science, history) within ASP. All other classes and activities take place within the traditional program.
Academic Support Class – $5,500
Additional Core Courses – $1,500 per course
Medical Insurance
All SKS students are required to have adequate comprehensive medical insurance that can be used in the local area. Students who do not have their own health insurance may purchase appropriate coverage through SKS.
Medical Insurance (if needed) – 10 month coverage: $2,295
Transportation
Transportation to and from local airports will be provided by SKS and arranged through the Office of Student and Residential Life, provided that adequate notice (a minimum of 7 days) is given for scheduling. Newark: $150
LaGuardia: $175
JFK: $200
Students also have the option of arranging their own transportation. The preferred provider at SKS is Commonwealth Limousine. Their contact information is listed below, but rates are independent of the SKS prices above.

Laundry
The School provides washers and dryers free of charge for students to use. Students are reminded not to overload machines or leave laundry in them for extended periods of time. Detergent is available in the School Store. Students also have the option of using a laundry service. Laundry goes out on Wednesday and returns Friday. The fee is by the pound for bulk laundry, and per garment for dry cleaning. Pick-up and delivery is arranged through the Business Office.
In an effort to encourage the practice of good hygiene, the School provides a linen service free of charge for boarding students. Each Friday, students may turn in their bed linen and they will receive a clean set of two sheets, one pillowcase, and two small towels. Students should bring these items to the Business Office.
Books and School Uniforms
We have a “virtual” bookstore, and Follett is our textbook provider. The cost of books and associated course materials averages $350 per term. Students may charge books to their SKS accounts; parents will be billed. Students may order their uniforms from Tommy Hilfiger. https://www.globalschoolwear.com/default/school-search/STOR01
Room Safe Rental
Students may have a secure safe installed in their dorm rooms at a cost of $75/year.
This sum is held by the school to cover unpaid costs incurred by the student to include books, testing, supplies, room or property damages, etc. In the event that the expenses are not paid by the student’s family, the unpaid amount is deducted from escrow. Any unused amount is credited to the account when enrollment is completed.
An ATM is available on campus. All students should have a debit/credit card for cash needs or purchases made on campus. These include purchases in the school store and the student center snack bar. There is a $1.75 charge for each ATM transaction, in addition to whatever fee your bank may charge. Invoicing will be permitted for certain services. Families receive monthly statements for invoiced charges.
