The holiday season came alive at The Storm King School as Mrs. Jacobson’s dance students took to the stage at the Walter Reade Jr. Theatre for the 2025 Winter Dance Recital. This talented group of dancers wowed the audience with 20 high-energy performances choreographed to a variety of musical genres. From contemporary solos and group numbers to festive finales, the recital showcased the hard work, skill, and dedication of our student performers.

Mrs. Jacobson, who choreographed the show, was thrilled with her students’ performances: “I am so proud of this year’s Winter Dance Recital! The dancers did a great job showing everything they learned this semester. Out of the 17 dancers, only 3 of them had taken dance class with me before. It was the first year we had five 8th grade students in the show, and each one of them performed either a solo or a duet.”

The recital featured a rich mix of musical genres and dance styles. Highlights included group numbers such as “Smooth Criminal,” “Lean on Me,” and “Footloose,” as well as solo performances such as “You Say” by Mila K. ’30, “These Boots Are Made for Walking” by Milana R. ’28, “Fantastic Baby” by Ziqi Z. ’30, and “Turning Tables” by Valentina B. ’30. Cultural pieces such as 神的随波逐流 (Going with God’s Flow) by Xize Y. ’30 and 青春修炼手册 (Youth Practice Manual) by Jingqi X. ’26, Stephen Y. ’26, and Bohuai Z. ’26 brought variety and excitement to the stage.

Throughout the show, the energy in the theatre was infectious, and the students in the audience were very supportive of their peers, giving the dancers on stage “a huge confidence boost,” according to Mrs. Jacobson. The recital concluded with a nod to the holidays with “I Want to Be a Rockette” and “Oh Santa!”

Congratulations to all of our dancers and to Mrs. Jacobson for another outstanding recital. Special thanks to Technical Director Eliza Brown and the stage crew, and a special shout-out to Eric W. ’27, who did a fantastic job with the lighting for the show. Thank you to the entire Storm King community for supporting the arts.
