Two back-to-back events marked the launch of the SKS 2020-2021 Alumni Speaker Series, where generations of alumni, faculty, and staff gathered virtually to share experiences and discuss historical issues and today’s challenges.
The first event on the evening of Tuesday, October 6, was a gathering of past and present members of Storm King’s Black Student Union (BSU). Facilitated by Charles Cordero ’92, the meeting was highlighted by a wonderful exchange of topics comparing and contrasting issues still relevant in society today. The group plans to hold ongoing meetings to continue the conversation in the coming weeks and months.

The following evening, on Wednesday, October 7, alumni, and faculty, and staff from The School’s 80s decade gathered virtually to connect, recall, and reminisce at a virtual meeting facilitated by Steve Bluth ’83. Headmaster Jim Dowell, 1983-1987 said he was pleased that the Walter Reade Jr. Theatre was built during his tenure, and another alumnus recalled they were taught and inspired by SKS faculty to go off to college well-prepared academically with confidence and independence: “I remember being welcomed on the Mountain, and that SKS saw something in me that I didn’t see myself.”
