The Storm King School Cougars have accomplished great things as they finish their first month of competition. “September has been an outstanding month for our six varsity and JV teams. They have been practicing hard, making outstanding progress, and demonstrating discipline and good sportsmanship on and off the field whether they’ve won or lost,” explained Athletic Director Nicole Cervantes. “I’m very proud of all of our players and the efforts of our coaches. In October, our common goal is to build on our experience and be even “Bigger, Stronger, and Better.”

The girls cross country team traveled to Faith Christian Academy on Saturday, September 17, for their first meet of the season where they gained valuable experience on the course. At the Oakwood Friends Invitational on Wednesday, September 21, Marissa C. ‘24 placed 2nd out of 19 runners with a time of 23:12. At the Storm King Invitational on Wednesday, September 28, Marissa once again finished 2nd at 23:04 out of 24 runners to represent the SKS girls. “Although the girls team does not have enough runners to contend for a team win, Marissa has had several strong finishes, including our notoriously difficult home meet course this past Wednesday. We are looking forward to building on these successes as the season progresses,” commented Coach Finn-Atkins.

Since the start of school, the boys and girls cross country teams have been training hard by running hills around campus and trails in Black Rock Forest under the guidance of Coach Finn-Atkins. September has been a great month for the boys, who are undefeated so far this season. The Cougars enjoyed a win at their first invitational of the season on Saturday, September 17 at Faith Christian Academy. The following Wednesday, September 21, the harriers kept the momentum going, emerging victorious at the Oakwood Friends Invitational, where Storm King captured 4 places in the top 10. Edward I. ’23 took 1st place (18:52) with Kayan M. ’23 in 2nd place (20:10) followed by Vincent I. ‘24 in 6th (21:16) and Marquise S. ’25 in 8th (22:11).

The boys team ended the month on an exciting note hosting rivals Woodhall, Darrow, Oakwood, Hoosac, NYMA, and EF Academy at the annual Storm King Invitational held on Wednesday, September 28. The Cougars once again ran to victory with an average time of 20:51. Edward placed 2nd (18:47), followed by Kayan in 6th place (19:55) and Vincent in 10th place at (20:43) out of 45 runners.
