A group of talented student-artists from The Storm King School traveled to New York City’s Jacob Javits Convention Center on Sunday, October 3, to attend National Portfolio Day. The event, organized by the School of the Art Institute of Chicago (SAIC), is one of the nation’s largest portfolio days with representatives from over 50 nationally accredited art colleges and universities on hand to review artwork, discuss programs, and answer questions about creative and professional careers.
Students who attended included Laura H. ’23, Alice L. ’22, Ada A. ’23, Charlotte J. ’23, Kaiti B. ’23, Paris T. ’25, and Dana X. ’24.
According to Visual Arts Chair John Carruthers, the trip was a great success, and very beneficial to the students: “Due to pandemic restrictions, the event was less crowded than usual. This was great for our students because they were able to talk to any college they wanted without waiting in long lines. Also, quite a few underclassmen joined this trip, so it was a great opportunity for them to get an early start and see what college expectations are like. Before returning to campus, we also enjoyed some excellent New York street food at Hudson Yards.”
