Exciting international trips are an integral part of the student experience at The Storm King School, enhancing our academic and community service programs while enriching student life. This year, during Thanksgiving Break, an adventurous group of students and faculty embarked on an unforgettable journey to Iceland, where they experienced the rugged natural beauty of the country through adventure, cultural exploration, and meaningful experiences.
Upon their arrival, the day began with a breathtaking sunrise followed by the exploration of natural wonders at Thingvellir National Park. From there, the group set off on a scenic bus tour that revealed Iceland’s breathtaking waterfalls, stunning landscapes, and impressive geysers.
As they delved deeper into the country’s natural wonders, the students marveled at the ethereal beauty of the Northern Lights and trekked across majestic glaciers adding an element of thrill and challenge while creating memories of breathtaking landscapes and rewarding experiences. The group also took time to unwind in Iceland’s soothing hot springs, a perfect way to recharge before moving to their next destination.
Other activities included a morning of shopping in Reykjavik, an exciting whale-watching excursion, visiting Iceland’s iconic black sand beaches, and exploring the Solheimajokull Glacier Lagoon. Walking through the caves at Hella, admiring the diamond-like icebergs at Breiðamerkursandur, or Diamond Beach, a visit to the Perlam Museum, and a FlyOver Iceland tour brought their experience full circle.
A new destination this year, the trip to Iceland was a perfect blend of excitement, learning, and cultural connection, leaving the students with lasting memories and a newfound appreciation for the country’s beauty and its people. Looking ahead, The Storm King School plans to continue these enriching experiences with trips to Greece during the Spring Break holiday and Costa Rica during the Q-Term in May.
