The girls varsity basketball team enjoyed a double victory on Wednesday, January 22. After an exciting win over HVAL rival Marvelwood, 44-27, led resoundingly by senior captains Samantha McCullough, Naunet Leonhardes-Barboza, and Linyin Wang, the team was surprised by a gentleman in the bleachers sporting a Storm King School sweatshirt who had been cheering on the girls throughout the game. It was Storm King Alumnus Tom Delaney, Class of ’58, who drove down from his hometown in Rockport, north of Boston, Massachusetts.
After helping to cheer the girls to victory, Mr. Delaney took a few moments after the game to talk with the team. He told them a great story about playing basketball at Storm King in its old gymnasium and how one day his foot broke through the wooden floorboards! Many thanks go out to Tom for his unexpected visit, his time spent with the team, and his continued support of Storm King and the Cougars!
