Embracing Diversity
As an extension of our mission, The Storm King School believes in a culture of mutual respect that is fair and free of bias. Our diverse yet close-knit school community thrives on the discovery of new perspectives and embraces uniqueness and individuality. We value every opportunity to learn and grow from the multitude of lived experiences, challenges, strengths and personal beliefs held by all members of our community, past and present.
As such, we are committed to creating a welcoming environment conducive to learning, living and working where everyone feels they belong and has the support they need to reach their fullest potential.
We’re All About Community
SKS is more than a school. We are a small, global community with big possibilities.
As a school, we strive to recruit students and faculty from diverse backgrounds, perspectives, and geographies whose goals are consistent with both our mission and our sense of tradition.
Our enrollment of 175 is perfect for cultivating a supportive and inclusive community. Living by our mission and honoring our core values every day, our school is a place where all students can explore their individuality safely within a supportive and nurturing framework of human relationships. From being known and accepted as individuals, they can build confidence, be empowered to strive, take risks, and reimagine their potential —leading to big possibilities.
A Microcosm of the World
The Storm King School has welcomed international students for generations and embraces the fact that interaction with and understanding of people from around the world is essential to both educational and professional success in an increasingly globalized world.
As an international school, exposure to diverse cultures, identities, and points of view in a caring environment fosters tolerance and allows our students to appreciate differences — values that are essential for their future as global citizens.

DIVERSITY, EQUITY, INCLUSION COMMITTEE
The Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) Committee, formed in the spring of 2021, represents the many voices of the Storm King School learning community. Our work in this area is an exciting opportunity to celebrate, enrich, and continuously improve who we are as teachers and learners at SKS. The committee acts in an advisory capacity to do the following:
What is happening now?
2021-2022: Faculty and staff development through in-service workshops, discussions, and speakers; curriculum review by department;
2022-2023: Preparation of a climate survey for students, faculty, and parents. This project will help the committee and the community understand more about the current school climate, policies, and curriculum that are connected to the DEI initiative.

Student Clubs Celebrate Diversity & Community
Black History Month: “Bond, Celebrate, Educate" #sksExperience #diverseSKS
As February unfolded, The Storm King School enjoyed Black History Month with a series of engaging and educational activities led by the Black Student Union (BSU). Guided by the theme “Bond, Celebrate, Educate,” this year’s events brought together students and faculty to explore Black history and culture in engaging ways. The celebration has been a huge success, fostering meaningful connections and cultural appreciation.
The celebration will conclude with Family Feud Night, where faculty and students will have the chance to test their knowledge of Black history and culture. Nyla and BSU Vice President Amber L. ‘25 led the planning of this event with the goal of further strengthening bonds within the community. “If Family Feud Night goes well, we would love to host another one for those who couldn’t make it,” Nyla shared, expressing her enthusiasm for continuing the momentum beyond February.
Looking ahead, the BSU has ambitious plans, including a potential trip to the Museum of Hip Hop in New York City and an all-school cookout party in the spring. “We want to bring the community together in more ways, whether it’s through music, food, or simply spending time with one another,” Nyla explained.

At The Storm King School, student clubs have always been essential to the overall Storm King experience. Whether organized by the School or conceived and run by students, clubs provide a venue for self-expression, discovering new passions, developing leadership skills, or simply an environment where one can meet friends and have fun. Here are some snapshots of our Spanish and Board Game Clubs. #sksExperience #diverseSKS
