The end of the fall semester at The Storm King School is always a busy time, with students finishing exams, preparing for the winter break, and enjoying festive events to usher in the holiday season. This year’s celebrations included memorable student performances, bringing together talented musicians, vocalists, and dancers.

Winter Music Recital

The Winter Music Recital was a highlight of the season, offering an opportunity for students, faculty, staff, and parents to enjoy the musical talents of SKS students. Under the direction of Music Director Paul Connors, the performers showcased a variety of styles, from contemporary hits to beloved classics.

The evening began with the Cosmic Love band, featuring Christine S. ’25 (vocals), Sagan N. ’25 (keyboard), Andy C. ’26 (keyboard), Milo M. ’25 (saxophone), and Jimmy L. ’25 (drums). Their rendition of Florence + The Machine’s “Cosmic Love” set a lively tone for the performance.

Next, the Tuesday Band performed Khalid’s “Heatstroke”, with vocals by Nyla A. ’25 and Min K. ’25, accompanied by Rikki E. ’28 (clarinet), Shaheer A. ’26 (guitar), Andy C. ’26 (keyboard), and Lambert L. ’28 (drums).

The Friday Band closed the set with “Mary on a Cross” by Ghost, featuring vocals by Christine and Adrian Y. ’27, with Emmett J. ’27 and Shaheer on keyboards, and Coco P. ’25 on drums.

The SKS Chorus also offered several memorable performances, including Evie T. ’29’s rendition of “Castle on a Cloud” and Adrian’s performance of “Dark is the Night”. Santiago S. ’26 captivated the audience with “Winner Takes It All”. The Choral Ensemble delivered moving group numbers, including “Silent Night/Little Drummer Boy”, with Sagan accompanying on cello, and “I Won’t Say (I’m In Love)” from Hercules. Other highlights included “To Sir, With Love”, “Last Christmas”, and “Fly Me to the Moon” by Patrick F. ’25.

Winter Dance Recital

The Winter Dance Recital was another exciting community event, showcasing the dedication and talent of Storm King’s student dancers. The recital featured 18 routines, including group numbers, solos, duets, and trios, providing a dynamic range of performances.

The event opened with a high-energy group performance of “It’s Tricky”, featuring Maria Julia B. ’26, Adriana C. ’27, Rikki E. ’28, Patrick F. ’25, Jasmine F. ’25, Charley K. ’28, Jiann L. ’26, Andrea L. ’25, Milo M. ’25, Milana R. ’28, Kira S. ’28, and Yoyo W. ’28. Their lively choreography set an energetic tone for the evening. Another standout group performance was “Cosmic Love”, which showcased synchronized movement set to the Florence + The Machine song.

Several solo performances also stood out, including Andrea’s emotional rendition of “It’s a Man’s Man’s Man’s World”, Milo’s unique style in “Voyager”, Maria Julia’s “Aquarela”, and Charley’s performance of “Enchanted” were other highlights.

The trio performances of “Lose Control” and “To Build a Home, featuring Jiann, Andrea, and Milo, showcased the dancers’ strong connection and choreography. Other performances, such as “Shut Up and Dance” (Adriana and Luciana R. ’29) and “Happy” (Maria Julia), added fun and upbeat moments to the evening. A group performance to the holiday classic “Fah-who foris, dah-who doris” closed the show to the delight of the audience.

This year’s Winter Recitals truly lit up the Mountain! Congratulations to all the student performers for their impressive work. Special thanks go to dance instructor Mrs. Jacobson for her choreography and guidance, and to the technical and stage crews who helped bring these performances to life.
