On a beautiful fall morning, the spirit of giving back brought The Storm King School community together for a meaningful fundraiser in Cornwall-on-Hudson. Motivate Physical Therapy’s recent 5K Walk/Run aimed to raise awareness of the challenges faced by individuals living with Alzheimer’s and other forms of dementia, as well as their families and caregivers.
The SKS community was well-represented, with students, teachers, staff members, alumni, trustees, and even the head of school joining in the fun. Some participated as runners, while others volunteered at the event.
Cheering on the runners at various points along the course were Keiyona J. ’26, Candy N. ’26, Duong N. ’25, and Eray Y. ’27. Among the enthusiastic racers were Liam M. ’27 and Andrea L. ’25, who joined faculty and staff members Mr. Gillett, Dr. Finn-Atkins, Ms. Fulton ’09, Mrs. Shrem, and Head of School Lisa Shambaugh. Alumni Trevor Hughes ’13, Ross Sober ’92, and Trustee Johnathan Flores also took part, embodying the spirit of community engagement.
The event was a display of Storm King’s commitment to supporting the local community, but also allowed participants to shine by taking home several awards:
- Liam: 1st place in age group, best overall in age group
- Andrea: 1st in age group
- Jonathan Flores ’12: 1st in age group
- Trevor Hughes ’13: 3rd in age group
- Mr. Gillett: 1st in age group
- Mrs. Shrem: 3rd in age group
- Dr. Finn-Atkins: 2nd place overall
As the runners crossed the finish line, the air was filled with laughter and cheers. With the sun shining and smiles all around, the Motivate 5K truly embodied the joy of our community coming together for a great cause.
