The Storm King School is buzzing with activity as 170 young scholars from 20 countries and nine states converge on campus for the 2024-2025 school year. The excitement began with arrivals, move-ins, and registration for new international students and day students. On registration day, families spent the morning checking in at various tables set up in Orr Commons, meeting with the Academic Office to finalize their class schedules, and completing their sign-ups for fall athletic teams and activities. Before lunch, families were invited to attend a Parents Reception in Ogden Hall where they had the chance to meet Storm King’s new Head of School Lisa Shambaugh and join a campus tour.

The remainder of orientation week is geared toward immersing new international students in American history, culture, and fun. Orientation began with cookie-baking at the head of school’s home, The Homestead, followed by shopping trips, hiking, sports practices, on-campus activities, and more. Orientation Week culminates in an exciting trip to the nation’s capital, Washington, D.C.

During their stay in the D.C. area, students will visit the Smithsonian National Portrait Gallery, the Hard Rock Cafe, the Smithsonian Air and Space Museum and Museum of Natural History, the National Mall and the National Museum of African American History and Culture (NMAAHC). Before heading back to New York and Storm King, the students will experience the rides, fun, and excitement at Pennsylvania’s Knoebles Amusement Park. Once again, Storm King welcomes all of its new students and families! It’s going to be another great year.
