Spring is has arrived at The Storm King School and college acceptances are more impressive than ever. Nearly 100% of the senior class has been accepted by their top-three choice of schools and several students have already decided to move on to the Ivy League. The majority of seniors have been accepted at least four prestigious institutions, and several student-artists have the choice to attend some of the most prestigious art colleges in the nation.

So far this year, we have seniors committed to attending Tufts, Cornell, New York University, Penn State, Northeastern, and Fordham among others while the others will decide among colleges including Purdue, Emory, Rutgers, Case Western, UMass, Hobart & William Smith,  University of New Haven, Siena, School of Visual Arts, Syracuse University,  Mount Holyoke, Brandeis, St. John’s University, Pratt Institute, Rhode Island School of Design, Parsons, SCAD, Denison, University of Maine, Drexel, University of California-Davis, UC-Irvine, University of Southern California, UCLA, and many others.

Director of College Counseling Daniel Constantinidi talking to our current junior class about college essay writing.

According to Storm King’s Director of College Counseling Daniel Constantinidi, they key to our students’ success is getting started early in the process and defining clear goals: “Our objective is to guide each student to choose the most appropriate colleges and universities that match their academic interests, goals, and talents; and to educate and assist them during the application process.” Most recently, the junior class attended a college essay-writing workshop giving them tips on choosing their Common Application essay topic and writing a compelling essay. Other workshop topics have included Tips and Tricks of College Visits, An Introduction to the College Process, and an SAT/ACT overview.

With the May 1st college commitment day fast approaching, excitement is high among the seniors and in SKS’ College Counseling Office. “I don’t know who is more anxious–myself or the students,” continued Mr. Constantinidi. “Many seniors have reported their acceptances and commitments, and I am still waiting for the good news from others. I’m very proud of the work this class has accomplished and I can’t wait to report on their final choices in May.”
