The Storm King Cougars are back in competition mode this week after a brief lull in the action here on the Mountain.

Cross Country

SKS Cross Country brought another trophy home on Wednesday, 10/13, at the New York Military Academy’s Annual Invitational. In a perfect showing, SKS runners took 1st through 6th place. The lone female runner for SKS, Marissa ’24, also took 1st place in the girls race. With one week off before their next showing, their coaches plan to challenge the team with mile sprints around the Duck Pond in Cornwall. Finally, the SKS harriers head to Marvelwood on 10/27 for their last outing before the HVAL Finals.

Boys Varsity Soccer

Soccer competitions resumed on Saturday, 10/9, with Boys Varsity Soccer facing off against Hoosac. The boys fought a hard battle against the Owls, dropping the match 15-1. Our players had outstanding performances, but defensive player Michael ’23 stepped up in a formidable showing. The team didn’t wait too long for a chance at redemption, facing off against local rival New York Military Academy on Wednesday, 10/13. The Cougars succeeded in taking home the victory 5-1.

Girls Varsity Soccer

The Girls Varsity Soccer team played back-to-back games this week, facing Hoosac on their home field on Tuesday, 10/12, in a rescheduled match. After a tough competition, the girls ultimately fell to their opponents 1-5. On Wednesday, 10/13, the team faced off against the Frederick Gunn School. The girls dropped the contest 8-1, but their coaches commented, “Even though we lost, the team played an excellent game. The team was working together and several players were coming out of their shells and sticking to tackles they had been practicing.”

 

Girls Varsity Volleyball

Girls Varsity Volleyball traveled to EF International Academy on Wednesday, 10/13. A nail-biter first game was won 31-29, after multiple back-and-forth volleys led by acting Team Captain Kimora ’22. SKS lost the next game 17-25, but rebounded in the third game to win 25-18 with steady gameplay from Maddie ’24 and Linda ’23. After losing some focus in the 4th game ending in a loss of 19-25, the match went to a 5th game where the Cougars didn’t quite get back into their stride, falling 8-15. The team is looking forward to a quick rematch against EF International on Saturday, 10/16, on their home court.
