On Saturday, August 9, the fall athletic season got underway when Storm King hosted Darrow School at home in their opening match of the season. While our passing didn’t perfectly reflect our “Tiki Taka” style of play and our finishing was a bit off-target, our boys were able to cruise to a 6-1 victory.
Storm King jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first half off of the head of sophomore and newcomer Conall Sweeney, who nodded in three goals before halftime. Storm King held most of the run of play in the second half and scored on twin cannon shots from senior Eduardo Vallarta Pena and one more from junior Alonso Gonzalez.
Storm King’s defense held strong through the match led by juniors Guillermo Ramos Sanchez and Leonardo Zhou, seniors Martin Prochazka and Daniel Amandi Moreno with freshman Alex Costemalle and sophomore Philip June Young sharing time in the goal.
In an effort to build depth into our program, Storm King played 26 different players in the match including seven eighth and ninth graders. While our play was not as pretty as we would have liked, we were able to shake off some of the rust as we begin the long trek through the season. The boys and coaching staff would like to thank the awesome crowd that was in attendance.
