SKS vocal instructor Gabriela Mikova-Johnson displayed her vocal talent at three concerts in Europe this summer. First, Poland was graced with her vocal duo Bellissime which she performed along with her friend Anna Butkiewicz as a part of “An Evening of Czech Culture” at Zakrent Dance Academy in Warsaw. The performance was realized in collaboration with the Czech consulate. The evening featured songs from Czech musicals and a talk by author Mariucz Szczygieł (Gottland).
Next, the duo moved on to the Czech Republic to perform again at a concert of classical and “cross-over” vocal pieces honoring graduates of the international preparatory school Gymnázium Amazon in Prague.
For her third concert, Ms. Mikova-Johnson teamed up with another friend and pianist Tanya Vaněčkova and baritone Aleš Kohout to perform at the Galerie Masné Krámy in the western Czech city of Plzeň (Pilsen). This concert was performed in support of the J.K. Tyl Theater, a major cultural institution in western Bohemia. Returning to Plzeň was a homecoming of sorts for Ms. Mikova-Johnson as she worked there as a featured performer for five seasons before coming to the United States.
Ms. Mikova-Johnson is excited to share her experiences with her vocal students at The Storm King School this fall to help them improve their vocal skills and realize their dreams of performing.
