2019-2020 has been an extraordinary and challenging year for all of our students, including our student-artists. After the School’s move to online learning in March, students and faculty alike had to rethink how to effectively deliver an important school event – 2020 Arts Weekend.

Usually a vibrant, arts-filled weekend on campus where students showcase their works and talents, this year’s Arts Weekend was forced to go virtual. Thanks to the efforts of the faculty, staff, and the students themselves, the School’s very first Virtual Arts Weekend was a great success. Student works in various branches of the arts were launched to the community as a series of online events over several weeks in April and May.

The Weekend kicked off with the annual Student Art Show featuring colorful galleries of work from students taking classes in the visual arts. Other installments included the spring dance recital, a music concert, and the 2020 Poetry Festival presented in three episodes. Most recently, a video of songs and scenes from the spring musical Chicago: High School Edition was shared with the community as the final installment of Arts Weekend, thus bringing it to a close on June 10.

Kudos to all of our student-artists and performers for their talent and perseverance in making our 2020 Arts Weekend an online success, and many thanks to the faculty and staff who helped to create this wonderful series of online events and bring it to the community.
